Frequently Asked Questions about Brooklyn Giro Bike Tours

What do we do on the tours?

Tours make stops to talk about the history of the neighborhoods you will be visiting or the sites you will see. Some tours make stops at local shops like Chocolate Factories for free samples. Other tours have all-inclusive prices, providing tastes of beers or lunch on the beach!

    What time should I arrive?

Please arrive 20-30 minutes before the tour begins, so we can get set up. Adjusting your seat and getting you on the right bike is important. The guide will also need to go over safety and answer any questions you may have.

Do I need to be an avid cyclist to go on the tours?

No, tours ride at a pace of 6 to 8 miles per hour and make stops to take pictures. Tours average 10-15 miles and we bike mostly on Bike Paths with very few hills. Biking laws and Bike Routes in NYC have changed dramatically in the past couple of years and cycling is now safer than ever. When you arrive, if you feel uncomfortable about cycling, we DO NOT want you to go out. We will issue you a refund on the spot or place you on an easier ride.

    What are the age requirements?

Participants must be ages 13 and up on Public Tours. Private tours can be arranged for ages 7-12 if you provide advanced notice as we do have smaller bikes.

    Where do the tours begin?

Our Brooklyn Tours begin in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The development in this waterfront area of Brooklyn is outstanding and ongoing. Our bikes for the Brooklyn Tours are stored at a Storage Facility on 160 John Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. We do not have a storefront so don't be alarmed! Upon arrival, you will see our bikes outside and be met by one of our tour guides. Lower Manhattan & Central Park Tours start near South Street Seaport from Manhattan Mini Storage located at 220 South Street. The Bronx-Harlem Tours start and end in Harlem: Extra Space Storage Facility 485 W 129th ST, New York, NY 1002.

    What is your refund policy?

100% Refund Guaranteed. No questions asked if you cannot make the tour or we are unable to reschedule you. Our only exceptions are no shows.

What is the policy for bad weather?

Riding in the rain or snow is not fun for us! But as New Yorkers, we have been taught to endure inclement weather. The weather in NYC can change from minute to minute. During the summer months, quick showers can be expected without warning. We do want you to enjoy your booking with us, so if poor weather will destroy your time with us, we completely understand. Our refund policy is easy. Your tour will be refunded if you cannot ride. Email or call us, so that we can re-book your tour for a different time or day. If we don’t hear from you, please show up on time and be ready to ride! No calls and no shows are our only exception to our refund policy. We will not be able to promise a refund or a rescheduled tour. If the weather is extremely poor and we decide to cancel, we will give you the option to reschedule or issue you a full refund.

What should I bring and wear?

Pay attention to the weather! We strongly recommend that you NOT wear loose clothing while riding a bike. We have bike racks, but bulky purses or those expensive cameras are not the best things to bring. We can store items for you in our secure storage facility if you decide not to bring them on the ride, but please arrive 30 minutes ahead of time so that our tour guide can accommodate you. We do not have water for sale or snacks. We do have a bathroom at the storage facility, but please make this a last resort when arriving.

If I cannot finish the tour, can I leave?

Perhaps. If you do decide that you cannot finish, you must be able to return our bike before the end of the tour at our storage facility and leave the bike locked. The bike we provide to you is your responsibility during the tour. We may charge $350 if the bike is lost or stolen.

Is gratuity included in the tours?

No, however tipping your guide is strongly recommended.

    Do tours end on time?

Not always. We may have to fix a flat or a chain. The group may be inexperienced cyclists. It can be unpredictable. And on rare occasions for smaller groups, we’ve been known to make detours depending on the interests or wants of the group. It depends on how much fun we are having and the availability of the tour guide. Many of our trips have ended with post drinks, great pizza, or coffee on colder days - but usually, we return within a reasonable time. Plan on 15-30 minutes post scheduled tour end.
